GPS Mount Recommendations for Garmin, TomTom and Magellan
In our opinion, you don't need an expensive "motorcycle GPS." But you do need a quality mount that can deal with vibration, harsh road conditions and weather. These days, there are many GPS makes/models to choose from. And yes, they are different enough that they require different mounts. Here are some of the most popular GPS brands with our recommendations:
Garmin GPS Mounts
- Garmin Nuvi series: Diamond Mount (our favorite) or Ball Mount
- Garmin Zumo: depends on the model; check out the Ultra-Swivel Gadget Mount and the eCaddy Ball
TomTom GPS Mounts
- TomTom "One" and “Start” series: Diamond Mounts
- TomTom "GO” series: Diamond Mounts
- TomTom Via series: Unfortunately the design of these units makes them difficult to mount on a motorcycle
Magellan GPS Mounts
- The Ball Mount may be used with RoadMate GPS units as long as you have a 17mm ball receiver hole (may be an aftermarket accessory).
- You can also check the Ultra-Swivel Gadget Mounts
Waterproof GPS Mounts
If you're looking to waterproof any model GPS, most models can be mounted with the Hydra.

Powering Your Device While Using the SLIDE Mount
The eCaddy Slide® Motorcycle Phone Mount was designed to accommodate all kinds of phones (and other devices) with and without cases/covers on them.
What if you need to power your phone while you ride, and your plug-in is inaccessible?
First, check to see if your phone screen re-orients when you turn it sideways (and even upside-down). If it does, you may have your answer already.
Second, it’s very simple to drill a hole in the SLIDE arm to accommodate your power plug. (Why didn't we manufacture it with a hole? Because there are thousands of phones and even more cases for them. Throw in the fact that you can mount your phone any direction you want in the SLIDE, and it's difficult to know where an individual person may want this hole.)
The only tools you need are chalk (or other way to mark where you need the hole) and a drill. Check out the video below showing how to do this.
Looking for power options? Make it easy with a Battery Harness! See USB Mini and USB Micro options.
You really can't find another phone mount with this much flexibility AND classic good looks. It will be the last phone mount you'll ever need! See SLIDE Mounts here.

Five Tips for Choosing the Best GPS
Using GPS on your motorcycle is not much different than in your car. However, there are a few extra considerations when you’re out in the elements:
- Glare: It happens more often on a motorcycle (no ceiling over you), and it’s not as easy to adjust the GPS if your hands are busy steering the bike. So get the brightest screen you can (or a way to cut down on glare, such as an anti-glare shade).
- Do you need to operate the GPS with gloves on? In our experience, even GPS models that say they can be finger-operated don’t always work that way when it comes down to it. If you want this feature, do as much hands-on testing as you can.
- Do you want to be able to pre-program routes? Many GPS units allow you to do this, but it usually involves plugging into to your computer and doing some ‘techie’stuff. Get details to be sure you’re comfortable with the technology.
- Seeing vs. Hearing: Is seeing the GPS enough for you? Or do you need to hear the GPS as well? If so, take some time to research Bluetooth technology and how it can work for you.
- Rain: If you ride much, you’re bound to get a little rain on you somewhere. So is waterproofing your GPS important to you? (See Waterproof Mounts for ideas)
